[Review] MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop; Perfect Gaming Laptop #DrivingInnovation

The headline of the article clearly tells what the information you are going to get by sparing your time in reading out. At GadgetGuide4U, we are always in search of reviewing the best products available in the market. In today’s blog, I talk about MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop and it is touted as the best Gaming laptop. In case if you do not know, MSI (Micro-Star International Co. Ltd) is a Taiwanese multinational information technology company headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The company designs develop and provide computer hardware, related products, and services, including laptops, motherboards, graphics cards, All-in-One PCs, servers, industrial computers, PC peripherals, etc. As a gamer, it’s a great news that MSI is the host of the international gaming event MSI Masters Gaming Arena (earlier known as MSI Beat IT). Coming back to the topic, the MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop is one of the best gaming laptop (after using it) and I make every effort to bring the clear picture in front of you so that there will be no dilemma while buying this laptop.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro laptop weighs 4.14kg and it is the thinnest 17.3-inch gaming laptop available in the market. It measures 428 x 287 x 49 mm and when it comes to design, MSI has adopted the old school of building this huge gaming laptop. The build quality of the laptop is tough and huge. The laptop has brushed, black metal coating lid and body, accented by streaks of red. The intake vents can be found at the bottom and massive pair of rear exhausts hints at the powerful hardware within.

MSI utilizes the ample space inside wisely and wrapping of the display are kept to a minimum even down the center of the router lid where flexing commonly occurs the most. Talking about the display, the laptop features 17.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The resolutions seems a little unambitious considering the powerful GPU and it runs at 120Hz, which shouldn’t be a problem for this machine. The MSI GT73VR comes in two variants 17.3-inch options: 3840×2160, and 1920×1080 with a 120Hz refresh rate and 5ms response times. MSI True Color includes preset modes for gaming, movie, and office applications with adjustable sliders for color temperature, gamma, blue intensity, and more. It’s the only indulgence with color is the backlit keyboard and a thin LED bordering the trackpad, both linked to custom profiles managed by SteelSeries Engine 3. The anti-ghost chiclet keys are comfortable to use, they sit level with the rest of the body – a curious aesthetic decision, considering how most laptops have the keyboard slightly recessed.

The touchpad works flawlessly good and the dedicated mouse keys are shallow in travel with the loud auditory click. The force required to push on a key is not too high or low, so using the touchpad is comfortable for longer periods if a mouse is not available. Starting from the top, there is a power button, a switch between onboard and discrete GPUs, a button for MSI’s exclusive Cooler Boost, a button to launch Split, and a button for SteelSeries profiles. Out of the four, only switching graphics cards will require a system reboot.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro laptop is powered by quad-core Intel Core i7-6820HK processor which is paired with GeForce GTX 1080. The quad-core CPU includes HyperThreading, and it has maximum Turbo speed of 3.6GHz. It only has a maximum TDP of 45W, so when compared with the 1080’s TDP of 150W, we’ve got a relatively cool machine when compared with prior generations.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop comes with 32GB of DDR4-2400 memory (up to a staggering 64GB), while a single 512NVMe SSD is included for the fastest possible data access. In terms of storage, the gaming laptop has M.2 PCIe SSDs running in super RAID 4, as well as standard HDD.

Of the 512GB, only 475GB is usable, but that’s still a hefty amount once you throw in the OS and about ten of your favorite games. There’s also a 1TB mechanical drive included for your media files and less-important games. Killer’s DoubleShot Pro networking solution has been used to deliver Gigabit Ethernet, along with 802.11 ac.

On the software side, there is MSI’s Dragon Center app, a system hub of sorts which gives access to programs such as SteelSeries Engine 3 and MSI True Color, which lets you switch color profiles (blue filter and Adobe RGB included). A system monitor tab provides essential information on a single page, whereas other tabs let you tweak settings such as LED backlights or CPU and GPU clock speeds.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop comes with connectivity features like five USB 3.0 Type-A connectors, along with a single USB 3.0 Type-C, HDMI 2.0, delivering 4K @ 60Hz, making this a great machine to hook up to your 4K TV. There is an SD reader too, Ethernet port, a mini DisplayPort, and a power socket on the back. There is an inbuilt webcam which captures 1080 FPS footage.

The wireless connectivity includes dual-band 802.11 as with MU-MIMO via a Killer Networking card and Bluetooth 4.1. A pair of front-facing, three-watt speakers can be found on the bottom, accompanied by a five-watt woofer – they sound good as far as laptop speakers go, though I recommend taking advantage of those audio hacks and USB ports.

The laptop comes with large speakers that sit near the bottom front edges and the integrated 2.1 Dynaudio speakers provide great sound quality. The subwoofer is quite large at about 35mm in diameter. For your information, the high-end G series models are equipped with ESS Sabre Hi-Fi DAC for supporting studio-grade headphones of up to 122 DNR and 600 ohms.

The battery on MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro lasts for around three hours with the usage of WLAN and to charge it fully it takes about 2.5 hours.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop comes with accessories like warranty card, quick start guide, cleaning cloth, and drivers/utilities DVD. In addition to this, MSI sells a host of G series branded accessories like backpacks, mouse pads, and more. The MSI also offers a two-year limited warranty as standard on new purchases of their G series notebooks. Talking about the service, it’s easy as the laptop has only five Phillips screws to loosen. The massive cooling solution takes up most of the space while the battery is surprisingly small considering the power demands of the notebook. The passive heat sink over the 3x M.2 slots is another nice touch as M.2 drivers can run very warm with the single 2.5-inch SATA III by sitting directly below. Access to the last two SODIMM slots underneath the motherboard will require additional disassembly.

The MSI GT73VR 6F Titan Pro Laptop is a combination of high-end components and you won’t have to adjust any settings in the laptop to play any game. Overall, the MSI GT73VR 6RF laptop has everything that a gamer needs in 2017.
